The title may be Lover but don’t let that fool you…
I would like to introduce you to Kyriakos Souvatzoglou @souvatzogloupoems, a Greek poet who has recently published an anthology of poems written in Greek titled Φιλήματα (Filimata), meaning kisses in English.
The Translation Journeys poetry card features one of Kyriakos’s poems which I have translated as a first showcase of his poetry in English.
His poetic style can be identified by the lyrical flow of rhyme that unravels deep internal reflections and feelings expressed with emotional intensity and a slight sombre tone, true to the pure experience of love in all its shadows.
His poems use love as a universal language, the only language that has the power to move everyone and everything.
I personally found his poetry cleverly written in rhyme, simple yet deep and as a translator it interested me to replicate this for English-speaking lovers of poetry.
